Improved lighting within the public realm supports great businesses and creates safe commercial main streets.
The City of Edmonton’s Downtown Vibrancy Strategy specifically prioritizes infrastructure upgrades that “encourage inclusive, connected, walkable streets” and “light-touch improvements to public spaces”.
This program encourages property owners to invest in public realm improvements to commercial buildings located within the Downtown Business Improvement Area, by providing matching reimbursement grants to cover a up to 50% of the eligible lighting upgrades that improve the public realm.
