Course Overview

The Practice of Commercial Real Estate course offered by NAIOP Edmonton is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the commercial real estate industry. This course covers essential topics, including property types, market analysis, leasing, financing, investment strategies, and ethical considerations. Through a combination of text, case studies, and practical exercises, students will develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in the commercial real estate sector. This course is self-paced, however the exam must be taken with the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) within 3 months of course completion.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

 

  • Define and differentiate between various types of commercial real estate, including office, retail, industrial, and multifamily properties.

  • Analyze market trends and conditions to make informed real estate decisions.

  • Understand the leasing process, including negotiation, documentation, and tenant relations.

  • Evaluate different financing options and their implications for commercial real estate transactions.

  • Develop investment strategies for commercial real estate properties.

  • Navigate legal and ethical considerations in commercial real estate transactions.

  • Certification: Certificate of Course Completion

  • Certificate Expiration: Upon completing the course, learners have 3 months to write the relevant exam with RECA.

  • Accredited by: RECA

  • Exam Length: 3 hours

  • Exam Attempts: 2

  • Passing Grade: 70%

Note: For the Practice of Commercial Real Estate exam, you will require the HP 10bii financial calculator which is permitted in MOST testing locations. You must check your desired location’s limitations at RECA Examination Centres before booking.

Note:  If you are taking the course for general interest purposes, and are not pursuing licensing, you do not need a RECA ID.

However, please note that you will be:

  • unable to use the course to meet licensing education requirements,

  • not eligible to have your course completion sent to RECA, and

  • not able to write the Provincial Qualification Exams.
